Events & time zones, questions
- When do the clocks change next?
- UK clocks go back on the last Sunday in October and forward on the last Sunday in March. The United States changes a week later in autumn and three weeks earlier in spring, which is why the gap between London and New York briefly differs from the usual five hours. Each clock-change event on this page has its own countdown.
- Why do event times differ between countries?
- An event happens at one instant in time, but each country reads that instant off its own clock. A New Year fireworks display at midnight local time is a different global moment in every time zone, which is why New Year takes 26 hours to travel around the world.
- Are past events removed from this site?
- No. Once an event has finished it moves out of the upcoming list but keeps its page, marked as passed. Removing pages that people have bookmarked or that search engines have indexed causes more harm than leaving them in place with accurate information.
