About this event
Diwali is the best-known festival in the Hindu calendar, observed over five days and also marked by Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists. The main night falls on the darkest night of the lunar month of Kartika. It is a public holiday in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Fiji, Mauritius, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, and is widely celebrated in the UK, Leicester hosts one of the largest celebrations outside India. India observes a single timezone, UTC+5:30, so the festival begins simultaneously across the whole country.
