Time across Wales
Daylight tableAbout Welsh time
Wales keeps Greenwich Mean Time in winter and British Summer Time in summer, the same clock as the rest of the United Kingdom. There has never been a separate Welsh time zone. What does vary across the country is daylight: St Davids in Pembrokeshire sees the sun set around eight minutes later than Monmouth on the English border, and Bangor in the north gets noticeably longer summer evenings than Cardiff.
Every clock on this page reads your own device time and converts it with the IANA time zone database built into your browser, so daylight saving is handled automatically for all 424 cities listed.
Common questions
- What time zone is Wales in?
- Wales uses Greenwich Mean Time (GMT, UTC+0) in winter and British Summer Time (BST, UTC+1) from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October. It shares the Europe/London time zone with England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, so Cardiff, Swansea and Bangor are always on exactly the same clock time as London.
- Does Wales have its own time zone?
- No. Wales does not have a separate time zone from the rest of the United Kingdom. All of Wales observes Europe/London. Sunrise and sunset do differ across the country though, because St Davids sits about 2.5 degrees further west than Monmouth, so the sun rises there roughly ten minutes later.
- When do the clocks change in the UK?
- Clocks go forward one hour at 1:00am GMT on the last Sunday in March, and back one hour at 2:00am BST on the last Sunday in October. The European Union changes at the same instant, so the one-hour gap between the UK and continental Europe stays constant all year.
- How many time zones are there in the world?
- There are 38 time zone offsets currently in use, ranging from UTCโ12 to UTC+14. Not all are whole hours. India is UTC+5:30, Nepal is UTC+5:45, and the Chatham Islands in New Zealand are UTC+12:45. That is why a converter is more reliable than mental arithmetic.
- Are the clocks on this site accurate?
- Yes. Every clock reads your device system time and converts it using the IANA time zone database built into your browser, which handles daylight saving rules automatically. Accuracy therefore depends on your own device clock being correct. If it is synced to the internet, the times shown will be too.
