About this event
Remembrance Day marks the armistice that ended the First World War at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. A two-minute silence is observed at 11:00am local time across the Commonwealth, and in the United States the same date is marked as Veterans Day. Because the silence is kept at 11:00am in each country’s own timezone rather than at a single global instant, it travels around the world over the course of a day.
